Maxima is planning to open 13 new stores on the Bulgarian market this fall. Twelve of the locations are former Penny Market stores, which the company took over from Rewe. The retailer is also building a store in Elin Pelin, western Bulgaria. Maxima is investing up to €7.6m in its expansion efforts.
The new stores will create about 250 new jobs, pushing the total number of employees in Bulgaria past 1,200. The chain will increase its national network from 48 locations to 61.
