MDM Group has picked up a five acre parcel of land in Overtown which once housed the original Miami Arena in a $45 million deal. Located at NW 7th Street and 1st Avenue, the site will be the home of the Marriott Marquis Miami Worldcenter Hotel & Expo Center. The hotel and convention facility is slated to be built in two phases. The first step will be the construction the 600,000 sqf conference and exposition space along with 1,100 hotel rooms. The second phase will add another tower with 600 hotel rooms. The project was designed by Miami architects Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates along with RTKL as the scheme’s interior design firm. The seller of the site is Old Arena LLC, led by Nitin Motwani.

“We have been passionately working on this project and are thrilled to be another step closer to creating a hotel & conference center that will continue to further the City of Miami’s stance as a true global destination,” said Joseph Herndon, Director of Development, for MDM Development LLC. “The property will be a transcendent step for the community, not only bringing thousands of jobs, but literally hundreds of thousands of visitors to area businesses.”
