After joining Fortenova Group in November, it will be easier for Slovenia’s leading retailer Mercator to secure refinancing. “Negotiations with lenders will certainly be easier when we are part of a stable and strong group. Entering Fortenova changes nothing for customers, but it brings us stability,” said Tomislav Čizmić, CEO of Mercator. “In the past two years, we have successfully reduced our debt and increased our profitability. Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done.” Key projects in Mercator’s pipeline include the construction of a logistics center in Ljubljana as well as the refurbishment of other facilities, including locations in Serbia. “Serbia is very interesting for us as a market, because it is actively consolidating,” said Čizmić.
