British private equity fund Mid Europa Partners took over Profi’s Romanian network from Enterprise Investors in a deal worth €533m. The transaction is expected to close in Q1 2017 after getting the greenlight from antitrust regulators.
“This is the largest transaction ever made by a private equity fund in Romania and the largest retail transaction in the country’s history,” said Nikolaus Bethlen, a partner at Mid Europa. The national Profi network currently includes almost 500 stores.
