Encouraged by the slowing pace of coronavirus infections in the country, the Czech government is considering allowing a new batch of stores to re-open for business. These would include stores seeling working clothes, children’s clothes and accessories, shoe retailers, DIYs and hardware stores. Also under consideration is the opening of public sports facilities which could be used without having to wear face masks. The government is currently expanding its pilot project for tracking the contacts of newly infected people using their phones and bank cards. At the same time, its top epidemiologist is already transitioning to prevention of the feared next wave of infections. Speaking online at DVTV, deputy health minister Roman Prymula said that if a treatment for COVID-19 were on the horizon, he would recommend continuing strict stay-at-home policies. But as no solution appears close, the best option may be to allow virus to spread through the population in a controlled manner.
