In a bid to keep Hungarian voters on his side, prime minister Viktor Orban has announced the establishment of a non-profit public utility company, according to a local television station. He said the purpose of the move is to enable the state to provide the lowest possible utility prices. Orban also added that the creation of the company had been driven by disputes with other energy companies. Orban announced this spring that he wanted Hungary to offer its citizens the lowest energy prices in Europe, and has pinned his hopes to the expansion of the country’s nuclear power capacity through cooperation with Russia.
