Palladium Shopping Center is celebrating its 15th birthday

25 October 2022

Today is exactly the day when Palladium, a modern shopping center with the widest range of shops, restaurants and services in the center of Prague, opened its doors for the first time 15 years ago. The Palladium was created by the reconstruction and addition of the former barracks of Jiří z Poděbrady on náměstí Republiky, and this connection of historical elements with modern architecture creates a unique atmosphere, thanks to which the building has become a prominent landmark of the city center, an attractive destination for many visitors, and which makes shopping a real experience.

Interesting facts:
– in 15 years, more than 250,000,000 customers have passed through the gates of the shopping center

– 70% of Palladia’s customers are women

– the Palladium complex with a total of 11 floors has 115,000 m2

– almost 200 shops, restaurants, cafes and service establishments operate in the shopping center

– up to 600 cars can be parked in the public part of the underground garage, where you can have your car washed or charge your electric car

– before the construction, a four-year archaeological survey took place, which proved that the history of the place dates back to the 12th century, when there was a settlement of wood-earthen houses and later the first stone buildings. The remains of these stone Romanesque palaces have become part of the interior of today’s building. The site of the complex also housed a hospital for the poor, palaces of prominent townspeople, and a Capuchin monastery and church.

– part of the Palladium center are the fully reconstructed historic buildings of barracks and former riding stables, which were followed by a modern addition in the courtyard.

– in the barracks building, Josef Kajetán Tyl wrote the words of the Czech national anthem when he was working here as a supplier of the 28th Infantry Regiment

– more than 35,000 visitors watched the grand opening concert on Republic Square, making it the largest event in this part of Prague

– in 2020–2021, the shopping center was renovated, the result of which is, for example, a new Infokiosk, the modernization of the often-photographed tunnel above the express escalator to the second floor, and new lighting installations from the workshop of the Czech company Preciosa in the stairwells from náměstí Republiky and the subway

– in 2021, the second floor devoted to gastronomy was renovated and now operates under the Tasty Graden brand
