Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG) assumes that due to the situation on the gas market, a significant increase in tariffs is possible, unless the legislator decides to extend the compensation, said vice-president Przemysław Wacławski.
“Compensation returns us the difference between how much gas we sell to the end user and how much we buy it for. So there are two options. Option one is that we are talking to the president of the Energy Regulatory Office about the new tariff. background, and probably – looking at the gas prices on the market – the increase in tariffs should be quite significant,” said Wacławski during the press conference.
The second possibility is that the legislator decides to extend the term of operation of the act by another year.
“In both cases, this issue will be neutral for us,” noted the vice-president.
The Act of 26 January 2022 on special solutions to protect gas fuel consumers in connection with the situation on the gas market provides for the freezing of gas prices for tariffed customers and the introduction of a compensation mechanism for gas sellers.
In the period from March 7, 2022 to August 2, 2022, PGNiG Obrót Detaliczny received a total of PLN 5.323bn in compensation for the operation of the act.
