Platforma plans Czech expansion

Platforma, a construction materials and equipment retailer, plans to expand its network of stores in the Czech Republic. The chain wants to open a second outlet in Prague next spring, with further store in the capital to follow. It also wants to open six to seven stores in regional cities around the Czech Republic. Libor Sonnewend, director of Platforma, a part of Saint-Gobain, told Hospodářské noviny that the company is poised to sign a contract on the plot for its second Prague store. He also said that outside the capital, Platforma is looking at cities with 250,000 to 300,000 inhabitants. The retailer reported a turnover of CZK 250m in 2013. Platforma competes with DIY chains, such as Hornbach and Bauhaus, as well as construction material suppliers, like Raab Karcher and Prodoma.
