Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna would like to see a project on banning nicotine-free e-cigarettes for children and young people up to the age of 18 hit the government’s work list before the summer holidays. Three drafts on banning e-cigarettes are being prepared in the ministry.
“We have a total of three projects. One is the implementation of the directive and it is already in consultation and the other two we have prepared in the Ministry of Health. I will want to present them to the Prime Minister,” Leszczyna said.
“This project one, such a faster path. It mainly covers kids, so that children and young people up to the age of 18 cannot smoke those cigarettes without nicotine, because they are also harmful and trigger a negative habit. I would like to see it enter the work of the government before the summer holidays,” Leszczyna added.
The minister stressed that the entry into force of this regulation would require notification to the European Commission.
“I had hoped that it would be possible without EU notification. Unfortunately, we have to notify this project and today after the Council of Ministers, probably at the Chancellery, I will discuss this,” Leszczyna announced.
MZ: We want to present a bill restricting alcohol sales at night at filling stations
Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna has announced the presentation of a draft law banning alcohol sales at fuel stations at night. The draft would be presented after the summer holidays, if approved by the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers.
“The percentage of profit of stations due to alcohol sales is not at all their key income. We have finished the analyses and I will be willing to present, also to the government’s work programming team, a bill that would limit night-time alcohol sales at petrol stations,” said Leszczyna.
She stipulated that it is likely that the draft will not be presented before the holidays, as the ministry is working on a number of changes that are linked to the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
“After the holidays, the draft on the table if approved by the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers,” the Minister said.
“I for one would very much like it to come into force. I don’t see any reason for people to buy alcohol at a petrol station at night,” Leszczyna added.
Asked whether alcohol sales should not also be restricted in night-time shops, Leszczyna replied: “This is the domain of local authorities, many local authorities are moving in this direction. I encourage all of them to go, but we are not going to take away the competences of local governments. As for the ‘monkeys’ – it’s about packaging and quantities – this is an EU regulation and we can’t do such a protest ban”.
