Polish households less indebted

8 February 2013

Following a wave of bad news on Poland’s weakening consumer confidence, economists are now saying that the domestic economy is likely to rebound this year. They are basing their predictions on a recent study from the Institute of Economic Development at the Warsaw School of Economics. While household incomes have not increased, the study found that more Poles are living debt-free. The improvement is due to two factors: the recent interest rates cuts, and the fact that Poles are borrowing less.
“Most of the respondents stopped buying fixed assets, such as cars or flats. They did however said their financial situation improved,” said Slawomir Dudek of the Institute of Economic Development.
