Portugal’s energy regulator postpones decision on pipeline project

17 February 2016

REN, Portugal’s National Energy Network has proposed the construction of a third natural gas pipeline between Portugal and Spain, but the Regulatory Authority for Energy Services (ERSE) says that there’s no conditions for this project to go forward, meaning that a final decision was postponed once again.
The project would require an investment of €137m to complete the 162 km pipeline. ERSE proposed the postponement of its submission until the release of 2017 edition. The energy regulator claims that it is necessary to clarify what level of European subsidies would be available for the investment in order to clarify its impact on Portuguese customers.
