Prague 9 wants to change the zoning plan for Přátelství park and other localities

9 March 2022

Land in Prague’s Střížkov, by which the Přátelství Park is being expanded, and some land between apartment blocks in Prague 9 could be transformed from the current building plots into a non-building green area. Prague 9 is requesting a metropolis that approves changes to the zoning plan in ten selected localities in the ninth district, which approves changes to the zoning plan. The requests were unanimously approved by the Prague 9 City Council at its meeting yesterday.

The aim of the changes is to define park and recreational areas, said the mayor of Prague 9 Tomáš Portlík (ODS) yesterday. According to the currently valid zoning plan, we are asking for the status of these plots to be transferred from building to non-building plots.

Land with an area of 2.7 hectares near the Střížkov metro station could thus be converted into a non-construction area. In the area between Vysočanská, Jablonecká, Jiřetínská and Lovosická streets, the town hall is now expanding the Přátelství park. According to the management of the city district, the plots of land in Prague 9 for about four years are still a building area in the zoning plan.

Other requests from Prague 9 to change the zoning plan and transfer construction areas to non-construction areas concern areas between apartment buildings in Šluknovská, Varnsdorfská, Českolipská, Bílinská and other streets. According to Deputy Mayor Jan Jarolím (ODS), the changes proposed by the town hall should prevent further thickening of the housing estate in Prosek.

Prague 9, which has about 56,000 inhabitants, consists of the entire cadastral area of Prosek and parts of the cadastral areas of Vysočany, Hrdlořez, Střížkov, Hloubětín, Libeň and Malešice. After the elections, they formed an ODS coalition and the TOP 09 and STAN clubs in the city district, and together they have 23 seats in the 33-member council. Pirates and YES ended up in opposition.
