Prague finally starts new P+R construction

2 June 2020

The city of Prague has begun land preparation works for the construction of a new Park & Ride garage near the Černý Most metro station on the eastern edge of Prague. The 3-storey structure, which will create space for 880 cars, is being built on the site of a P+R parking lot that’s used by 300 cars on most days. The current administration of Prague criticized its predecessors for the failure to expand the city’s P+R capacity and has been working to build new ones in order to reduce traffic congestion by encouraging the use of mass transit. “Surface level lots and P+R garages are important transportation projects,” said deputy mayor Adam Scheinherr. “Every car coming to Prague that parks on its edges counts. It reduces traffic in the center and improves the air quality and the environment in the city. Construction work is due to get underway July 1 and be completed by the end of 2021. It will offer 22 handicapped parking places and two charging stations for electric cars.
