Profi opened its first modular store in Sighisoara. The store covers 327 sqm with a 200 sqm sales area but can easily be resized based on the profitability of the location. This means that if sales are good, the retailer can chose to expand the sales area. However, if sales fail to match the expectations of the company, then the store can be downsized rather than closed. Resizing the store would take only five weeks, according to Marian Popovici, Profi’s technical director.
Profi plans to open 70 new locations in Romania this year, some of which will be modular stores. Pawel Musial, Profi’s general director, said modular stores will allow the company to open in areas that are normally inaccessible to modern retail.
