Some of the developers have put on standby the construction of new malls in Romania due to the pandemic, and the area of shopping centers that will open this year is 50% smaller than in 2020, according to the consulting company Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.
The cumulative surface of the commercial spaces opened last year was 126,000 sqm, and the total stock exceeded the threshold of 4 million sqm. Only three malls were delivered last year: AFI Brașov, Shopping City Târgu Mureș and Dâmbovița Mall.
The most important projects currently under construction and whose delivery is planned in 2021 are the expansion of the Colosseum shopping center in Budapest, the first phase of the Fashion House Pallady developed by Liebrecht & wooD and Sepsi Value Center in Sfântu Gheorghe. In total, the deliveries of modern retail spaces this year will amount to approximately 60,000 sqm, decreasing by about 50 percent compared to the previous year, specify the representatives of Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.
