Rising wages forcing e-shops to rethink delivery charges

29 July 2019

Tesco is the latest retailer that’s rethinking how to value its delivery service. Beginning in August, its customers will have to order more than CZK 700 in order to avoid paying an CZK 80 charge. The policy will go into effect in Ostrava and parts of Prague, according to Hospodářské noviny. The charge could exceed CZK 200 for smaller orders, depending on the speed of delivery required and the time of day. The pilot project could be implemented in the other ten other areas that the company delivers to. Customers whose orders exceed CZK 2,200 will receive their goods without a delivery charge. Rohlik.cz, a major competitor for Tesco, won’t make deliveries for orders of less than CZK 500. E-shop operators have watched expenses connected with deliveries climb, primarily because drivers and warehouse staff are demanding, and receiving, higher wage packages
