Rohlik.cz switching to electric vehicle fleet powered by removable batteries
The Czech online grocery eshop Rohlik.cz is investing in a new fleet of small, electric delivery vans that run on interchangeable batteries. The company had tested electric vehicles in the past, but problems continually surrounded the long charge-up times they require. “Changing batteries makes sense to use because it can be done within three minutes,” said Ladislav Janckulik, project manager for strategic projects at Rohlik.cz. The company will be working with the Czech battery producer BattSwap. “We’re working with the producer how to further modify the battery. For example, we will want to increase the capacity of the battery so that it can last more than 120 km,” he said. The company’s goal is to find a solution that balances the economic costs with providing a high standard of service and reducing emissions. The new fleet should be in place and on the streets by the end of the year.
