The renting or leasing of residential premises in buildings classified as seismic risk class I will be prohibited until the buildings are rehabilitated, according to a bill initiated by the Government, adopted by Parliament and now promulgated by the President.
The draft initiated by the Government stipulated also that: “It is strictly forbidden to carry out commercial activities of any kind, as well as the placement of advertising means on the facade and/or on the terrace/roof of the building, the suspension of pillars, walls, interior staircases in the case of buildings classified in seismic risk class I or II.
Elected representatives amended the Government’s draft and removed the ban on carrying out commercial activities of any kind in buildings with seismic risk I and II, while maintaining the ban on renting out housing in these buildings.
In the last 30 years, only 26 buildings have been reinforced, 19 of them in Bucharest, according to official data.
