The price of Romanian-produced natural gas will increase by 143 percent over the next two years, as the government loosens price restrictions on fuel in an aggressive price liberalization program. Valeriu Binig, director of Deloitte in Romania, says that as 28 percent of the natural gas used by industrial consumers is imported, their end price for the fuel would increase by 72 percent. He warns that Romania is subject to substantial energy and political risks as it is a frontier market that’s entirely reliant on Russia for natural gas imports. Other European countries such as Britain have more than 10 sources of gas supply, notes Binig.
