Romanian online retail jumps 30% in 2016

E-commerce on the Romanian market jumped 30 percent y-o-y in 2016, according to a report by GpeC. The company states that €1.8bn worth of goods were sold online, with the average consumer making 8.4 purchases during the year. Mobile phone shopping has contributed to the increase, as the number of consumers owning a smartphone has jumped from 50 percent between 2015 and 2017. Retailers are reporting that half of all visits to their e-shops took place through a phone or tablet, while up to 30 percent of all purchases were made via mobile devices. Online credit card payments jump 45 percent to €745m with plastic used primarily for services, but 90 percent of all orders for goods are still paid on delivery, according to the report.
