There is 1.9 million sqm of modern retail stock in major cities across Romania, according to a DTZ study. The latest figures have been encouraging to developers, says Bogdan Marcu, head of retail at DTZ, noting that there are two shopping centers outside of Bucharest currently under construction. DTZ analyzed seven administrative regions and found that the country’s northeast region is the most developed, with 422,000 sqm of modern retail space. However, despite the statistics, Romania continues to lag behind CEE leader Poland.
