Heavy rain is the presumed cause of a partial roof collapse at Galeria Gniezno mall, located in the Wielkopolska region. Initial reports from the scene are that the drainage system on top of the structure was unable to divert enough water from the roof, leading to a partial collapse over the storage space in one of the stores. No one was injured, according to an official statement, but the police, fire and ambulance service are still on the scene, pending a verdict from building inspectors on the circumstances of the incident. Shortly after the roof collapsed, a decision was taken the facility manager Apsys to close the shopping center, as it was impossible to assess immediately what other damage might occur. Apsys is currently awaits a decision by assembled experts and assessors called in to investigate the scene.
