Sainsbury’s enters the discount fight

6 November 2014

In order to fight the growing market share of discount grocers in the UK, like Aldis and Lidl, Sainsbury’s has revealed that it will be developing its own chain of discount stores. The company has formed an alliance with the Danish discounter Netto and will be opening its first stores today in Leeds. Next year, if all goes to plan, the company will open another 15. The CEO of Nettos’ owner Per Bank said “I hope we can set new standards for discounters in the UK. It’s a big risk but I believe we are able to deliver that.”
