The fish farming company Jov ryb Jistebník today started selling fish at its ponds in Jistebník in the Novojičín region. Carp and zander are mainly on sale. Prices rose slightly compared to last year, people normally pay CZK 95 per kilogram of carp, a year ago it was CZK 89, according to company executive Jan Stehlík.

“Prices have increased slightly due to inflation and the growth of all costs,” said the executive. Compared to last year, the fish are smaller this year. “It was a colder year, so the fish are a little smaller,” said Stehlík.

With an area of 75 hectares, Bezruč is the largest pond in the Moravian-Silesian Region. Its catch is scheduled for November 5-7. “If there will be an accompanying program and the like this year, it will depend on the current coronavirus situation,” said the executive.

According to him, the coronavirus pandemic did not have a significant impact on fisheries. This year, the government’s anti-epidemic restrictions had a significant impact mainly on Easter fish sales. “Only customers from the area arrived, but people from other districts could not come, because at that time there was a ban on movement between districts,” said Stehlík.

The company catches about 150 tons of fish a year. Most of its ponds are located in the Poodří Protected Landscape Area.
