A new sales tax came into force today in Poland. The new tax is expected to bring in an extra PLN 1.6bn to the national budget by the end of 2017, said Paweł Szałamcha of Poland’s Finance Ministry. He claims that the final regulations are the most ‘conservative’ of any discussed by the government in the past months.
Debate over the new sales tax sharpened the conflict between Poland’s new government and the country’s biggest retailers. The measure that passed in the end is seen as compromise between the parties.
The lower chamber of parliament passed a bill amending the individual income tax law and the corporate income tax law at the end of July that includes a lower rate of income tax for small taxpayers.
