Shopping center expansions to boost Europe’s retail stock

Shopping center extensions will be a significant driver of new floor space across Europe over the next two years, according to Cushman & Wakefield. Shopping center space in Europe totaled 159.4 million sqm at the start of this year, up 4.5 million sqm y-o-y, with Western Europe accounting for 108.6 million sqm and Central and Eastern Europe making up 50.8 million sqm. Poland is expected to add 546,000 sqm of new shopping center space in 2017-18, the third largest development pipeline in the CEE region. Schemes currently under construction include the 64,000 sqm Galeria Połnocna in Warsaw, the 64,000 sqm Wroclavia in Wrocław, the 62,000 sqm Forum Gdańsk and the 42,000 sqm Serenada in Kraków.
