Skoda’s Russian unit could sell 100,000 in 2012

30 August 2012

The Czech automobile manufacturer Skoda is stepping up its activities in Russia, following an astonishing start to the year in terms of sales. While car sales rose just 15 percent nationwide over the first seven months of the year in Russia, Skoda increased its numbers by 41 percent. In all, it sold 54,684 vehicles. Last year, it found buyers for over 74,000 cars, but the chief of its Russian branch Lubomir Najman announced that it hopes to clear the 100,000 marker this year.
He made the announcement at the Moscow automobile show, where Skoda is introducing its 1.4 TDI version of the Yeti Soči. Its new Rapid model will be produced in Russia beginning in 2014, in the same factory that’s currently turning out Fabia and Octavia vehicles.
