Pressure is mounting on Slovak prime minister Igor Matovič to allow stores closed to prevent the spread of coronavirus to reopen. The Minister of Economy Richard Sulík vented his impatience with the current situation at a press conference yesterday when he said that trying to reduce the number of infected persons to zero was pointless “because the price to the economy is enormous. We have to find a reasonable balance.” He proposed opening all small stores, except for those in shopping malls, by the Tuesday after Easter. Prime minister Matovič reacted to this by blowing up at his own press conference appealing to people not to be crazy and reminding people that a record number of people (101) had just tested positive for COVID-19. Slovakia currently has 664 active cases and has recorded two deaths.
