Slovak retail revenues up 1.6% in May

Retail sales in Slovakia jumped by 1.6 percent y-o-y in May. However, sales decreased by 1.8 percent compared to April’s performance. The sales results for the first five months of 2014 were up by 4 percent y-o-y, according to figures published by the Slovak Statistical Office. Sales of household goods grew by 11 percent, while fuel sales increased by 2.4 percent. Food, beverages and tobacco sales, on the other hand, fell by 8.2 percent.

Wholesalers reported a 6.2-percent growth in revenues y-o-y in May, but a 0.4-percent drop m-o-m. Car and bicycle sales fell by 1.7 percent in May compared to the same month last year. Revenues in the hospitality segment, meanwhile, jumped 2.4 percent for accommodation and 3.1 percent for restaurants. On average, wholesale revenues grew 7.3 percent in the first five months of 2014 compared to the same period last year.
