Slovak travel agencies given one year to resolve cancelled trips

21 May 2020

Slovak travel agencies are to be given a year to solve matters with their clients whose vacations were made impossible by the coronavirus. Parliament passed into law a bill proposed by the Ministry of Economy that would allow travel agencies to offer alternative destinations to clients whose original trip had to be cancelled. They’ll be given until August 31, 2021 to reach an agreement with their customers. Those who fail to do so will be required to cancel the contract for the vacation and return all payments by September 14, 2021. Travel agencies that would become insolvent if forced to make these payments will be able to borrow from a state fund to ensure sufficient cash flow. The bill is based on similar measures taken in 12 other EU countries.
