Sofia’s retail sector is undergoing a broad restructuring at the moment, with many shopping malls being modernized, renovated and repositioned, according to Forton / Cushman & Wakefield. Sofia City Center, for example, is currently being modernized in a a project which the investor claims will create an entirely new retail concept. Forton / Cushman & Wakefield is the exclusive leasing agent for the mall. Another mall, Galeria Plovdiv, is being repositioned at the moment, while Markovo Tepe Mall will be re-opened after a change of ownership.
The expansion of retail business to regional urban centers is also continuing. International fashion brands such as H&M are already present in the country’s regional cities. Demand for space is encouraging investors to look for projects in the regional cities and to open smaller shopping centers like S-Mall in Sliven and Katina Center in Dobrich.
