Southeastern Grocers replacing Winn-Dixie stores with specialty stores

16 October 2017

Southeastern Grocers, parent company of Winn-Dixie, has stated a conversion plan to expand the firm’s specialty brands, Fresco y Más and Harveys Supermarket. The company plans to convert two Winn-Dixie stores in Lakeland and one in Tampa to Harveys Supermarkets, while four Winn-Dixie stores in Miami and one in Homestead will be converted to the Fresco y Más brand. There are currently five Harveys Supermarket locations in Florida, which was founded in Nashville, GA in 1924. The first Fresco y Más location opened its doors on June 15, 2016, in Hialeah. The converted stores are scheduled to open in early November.

“The unprecedented success we have witnessed over the past year at our Fresco y Más and Harveys Supermarket banners is a clear indicator that we are providing localized shopping experiences that resonate with our customers,” states Southeastern Grocers president and CEO Anthony Hucker in the release. “Rather than relying on one store model, we are entrenching ourselves in the communities we serve to better understand each unique landscape, and our customers’ shopping habits.”
