The Austrian retail chain Spar has taken over 62 Billa stores in Croatia from the Rewe Group. Over 1,900 people work in the stores but they are expected to continue working at the stores even after the transition. The deal was signed yesterday but it still has to be approved by the Croatian Competition Agency.
This will increase the Spar Croatian network to 100 stores. Spar Hrvatska, Spar’s Croatian branch, operates 38 hypermarkets and supermarkets in the country.
