Tesco is planning to add new retail space in Bratislava’s Petržalka district. The UK chain is reviving a five-year-old project to build shopping center next to its hypermarket along Panónská street. The first unit to go up will be a McDonald’s restaurant, for which it already has construction permit. In 2011, Tesco presented plans to build a shopping mall in Petržalka with 8,597 sqm of retail space cut into 48 units and a 370 sqm restaurant. Costs were expected to run to €10m, and the project was scheduled for completion in 2014. Tesco now hopes to be able to complete the project in three years on a plot owned by McDonald’s Slovakia. McDonald’s may relocate its restaurant from OC Danubia across the street.
