Tesco has sold its first asset in Slovakia, a shopping center in Žilina, to the former politician and Žilina mayor Ján Slota and his business partner George Trabelssie. The transaction is the first in what’s expected to be a series of sales of old, refurbished department stores that Tesco operates in Slovakia. This could be shortly followed by sale of a similar type of asset in Prešov. Trend.sk. writes that Trabelssie already operates the new Mirage shopping center next door to the Tesco store and speculates that the acquisition was aimed at preventing competition from entering the location. Tesco Stores spokeswoman Zuzana Lošáková told the server that Tesco is leaving the location and will not lease the space.
