Tesco is testing a smaller hypermarket concept on the Czech market. The retailer has reduced the size of its hypermarket in Prague’s Letňany neighborhood from 11,000 sqm to 8,000 sqm. Two new entrances have been added to the store, with one entrance connecting the hypermarket directly with Tesco’s F&F fashion store. The retailer also added a sweet shop, a flower shop and an area for kids. A distribution point for e-shop purchases and a petrol station are also in the plans. If the pilot project proves successful, Tesco will implement the concept at additional locations, writes the server idnes.cz.
Tesco is also trying to offload redundant land. It has 80 spare plots, some of them zoned for supermarkets or hypermarkets. The value of all the plots on Tesco’s books totals CZK 3.7bn, according to the server e15.cz.
