Tesco will close six of its stores in Poland this month, according to media reports. The stores that will close are located in Bydgoszcz, Kudowa-Zdrój, Legionowo, Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, Gniew and Nowo. Market observers speculate that the company is no longer interested in leasing space from third parties and claim that the retailer would likely continue operating all six stores if it owned the properties.
As a result of the strategy shift, more than 30 employees will lose their job, while others will be transferred to other stores. The retailer has been reducing its chain for some time now as it fights a losing battle with Lidl, Biedronka and Netto.
