Turkey’s largest e-commerce platform enters Romania

11 January 2024

Trendyol, Turkey’s largest e-commerce platform, majority-owned by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding, is entering Romania.

Romania is the country with which Trendyol will now attack the Eastern European market in the immediate future, driven both by the region’s potential as an EU member state and by a novel argument: the interest of Romanians in Turkish products, given that even Turkish TV series break ratings records. Once in Romania, the platform will expand to Greece, Hungary and the Czech Republic, with Poland, Slovakia and Bulgaria to follow by the end of this year.

In Romania, eMAG is the largest local online retailer, and recently launched the largest e-commerce logistics centre in the region near Budapest.
