Turnover of tenants in Polish shopping centers decreased by 25.3% y / y in Jan-Sep

The turnover of tenants in shopping and service centers decreased by 25.3% y / y in the period from 6 January to 30 September, according to data from the Retail Institute, which monitors 140 centers in Poland. The average turnover per meter at the end of September was PLN 664.7 / m2. lease (against 790.5 in 2019).

We are willing to risk the thesis that these facilities will be the black horses in the race and struggle with the effects of the pandemic. From January 6 to December 9, the footfall of shopping centers was lower by -30.4% compared to the 2019 results. The industry is counting on some losses in December, it also said. The biggest drop in attendance in the fourth quarter was recorded in November, which was closed by a 50.8% y / y decline.

“In the period from January to September, the vacancy rate in all centers monitored by Retail Institute amounted to 6.4% (compared to 2.9% in 2019). The largest increase in vacancy rate was recorded in large centers – at the end of September it was 8% ( compared to 3% in 2019), in small centers 5% (vs 3.4%), while in medium-sized ones it grew the slowest (3.7% vs 2.4%). In the same period, the highest decrease in footfall was recorded in large centers (-31.2%), medium (-27.5%) and small (-26.5%), which had a direct impact on the financial results achieved by tenants. The average turnover per meter at the end of September 2020 was already slightly higher in large centers (PLN 588.8; i.e. -26.5% lower than in the same period of 2019) than in medium-sized ones (PLN 584.5; i.e. -22.2% y / y). small ones amounted to PLN 496.2, i.e. 26.1% less than in the same period of 2019 “- we read in the material.

The space of fashion stores decreased by 4.1%, representing 54% of the lease area of ​​all shopping centers at the end of September. The greatest number of tenants in this category fell in medium-sized (-6.2%), large (-3.4%) and small (-1.7%) centers.
