Two Burger King restaurants in Dortmund have closed, according to the daily Ruhr Nachrichten, something that trade unions are blaming on the management’s unwillingness to deal with local union leaders. It was the Lebensmittel-Genuss-Gaststätte (NGG) trade union that warned a month ago that the restaurant franchisee Schloss Burger was planning to close restaurants in the area. The newspaper cites union secretary Martin Mura as saying there had already been conflicts between the works councils and the company and that the situation had blown up again over short-time work measures during the coronavirus crisis. NGG claims that 140 employees in Dortmun and Lunen would had been impacted by the closings, although 50 of the jobs appear to have been saved with the announcement that the Lunen restaurant will remain open.
