The Ministry of Finance failed in its first attempt to sell two apartment buildings with tenants in the Krkonoše region of Harrachov in a public tender. It wanted over CZK 112 million for both of them, but no one showed interest. Filip Běhal, spokesman for the ministry, it was announced today about the outcome of the tender.
“No bids were submitted in the competition, so the Finance Ministry will most likely announce another round of the competition,” the spokesman said.
According to the decree, the ministry set the price of the houses based on the book value, which it increased by about 10 percent. One house was offered for nearly CZK 46 million, while the other was CZK 20 million more expensive.
The two houses with 15 apartments, which were built in the 1990s for glassmakers in a local area called Klondajk, originally belonged to the city. But the court awarded them to the state in November 2021 in a settlement of liabilities following the privatisation of the state-owned Crystalex company in the 1990s. Mayor Tomáš Vašíček (SNK – Zmiana pro Harrachov) said earlier that the town would not enter the tender because it considers the price to be unreasonable, even considering the condition of the houses.
“The houses are in poor technical condition, the balconies must be removed and are beyond repair. According to the assessment we have, CZK 70 million must be invested in the houses to make them work,” Vašíček said. According to him, the roofs and other parts of the houses, which are in poor condition after 30 years, need reconstruction. Another complication for a potential investor, according to the mayor, is that the houses stand on land that does not belong to the state, but to the city.
