Uni Hobby expanding on the Czech market

Czech DIY chain Uni Hobby, owned by Jiří Šimáně, is reporting CZK 1.3bn in revenues and CZK 35m in profit in 2015. The positive trend continued in Q1 2016, with revenues up by 25 percent y-o-y. General director Miroslav Res says he believes the company succeeded in attracting former customers of Baumax and hopes to attract customer base of 300,000 client cards from the bankrupt Austrian DIY chain. Research by GfK indicates that the Czech DIY market is worth CZK 300bn annually, with OBI Hornbach and Bauhaus the strongest players on the market. Uni Hobby currently operates eight stores in the Czech Republic, the majority of which are in South Moravia, but future plans include cities such as Kladno and Svitavy.
