Walmart plans to build it’s first store in the Monroe County on Rockland Key as part of a larger retail scheme proposed by Rockland Investment Corp. Located near mile marker 9 bayside, the Wal-Mart would be a smaller super center at just 123,000 square feet. Wal-Mart plans to invest $30 million in to the center that is slated for completion in 2017. The new center will offer 335,000 square feet on a 33-acre site with 1,258 parking spaces. Wal-Mart will be the anchor tenant with 18 other stores employing around 600 workers in all. Wal-Mart has more than 343 stores in Florida, with the closest location to this newest addition being in Florida City.
