The Žabka chain of convenience grocery stores has opened seven new stores in the Czech Republic since the beginning of 2020. The most recent of these was in Prague 5 where it replaced a store that had a 20 year history in the area on K Závěrce street. Žabka is in the midst of a major expansion push in the country which will see it expand beyond its traditional stronghold in Prague and Central Bohemia. “The most recent trend is for quick shopping in accessible locations with a wide offering of additional services,” says Žabka’s general manager Radim Lunda. “We plan to open dozens of new stores this year.” The company works with franchise partners who pay a CZK 10,000 entry fee and a CZK 20,000 deposit. Žabka is part of the Tesco group in the Czech Republic.
