ETC Swarzędz, one of the first shopping malls in the Wielkopolska region, is marking three decades of successful operations. Since its opening in 1994, this iconic mall has been a cornerstone of retail and community life in the area. Over the years, it has transformed from a simple shopping destination into a vibrant community hub, welcoming more than 15 million visitors since its redevelopment.
Originally launched as a pioneering retail space, the mall underwent a major transformation in 2016, led by Capital Park Group and Akron Group. This redevelopment marked a new chapter in its history, merging its three separate halls into one modern, cohesive building. The project introduced a sleek new façade, air-conditioned interiors, and a revamped food zone, all designed to meet contemporary retail standards.
“When we acquired ETC, we recognized its deep connection to the local community but also saw the need for modernization,” said Marcin Juszczyk, Managing Partner at Capital Park Group. “We adapted it to meet current market trends, and the result is a modern, vibrant space that serves both retail needs and community events. Over 30 years, ETC has become a dominant player east of Poznań.”
The fully renovated mall reopened on October 7, 2017, and today spans 20,886 square meters, with more than 90 percent of the space leased. Its tenant mix includes well-known brands such as Intermarché, Reserved, RTV Euro AGD, CCC, and Empik, alongside local businesses, catering to a diverse range of customers.
Stefan Ausch, Managing Partner at Akron Group, highlighted the mall’s ability to adapt: “For 30 years, ETC Swarzędz has evolved with changing customer needs and market trends while maintaining its commitment to environmental and social values. It is a key part of the urban fabric.”
ETC Swarzędz has also demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability. In April 2024, it earned the BREEAM In-Use Excellent certification, a recognition of its efforts in reducing electricity, heat, and water consumption, as well as waste management. The mall’s green initiatives include an insect hotel in the parking lot, environmental education campaigns, and support for local animal protection organizations, including its adoption of an Egyptian fruit bat at the Poznań Zoo.
Community engagement is at the heart of ETC’s mission. The mall regularly hosts events such as workshops for children and adults, blood donation drives, free mammograms, and fundraisers for animals. Seasonal events like spring environmental workshops and Christmas festivities have become staples, drawing in thousands of visitors each year.
Located on the main route between Poznań and Warsaw, ETC Swarzędz remains easily accessible for local residents and visitors alike. Its amenities, including a food zone, children’s playground, relaxation areas, and free parking for over 1,000 cars, ensure a convenient and welcoming experience for all.
After 30 years, ETC Swarzędz continues to thrive as both a shopping destination and a beloved community space, attracting around 2.3 million visitors annually. Its ability to blend retail convenience with a strong sense of social responsibility ensures its place as a key player in the region for years to come.
