Furniture retailer Porta will open its first store in Slovakia in Bratislava’s Bory shopping zone. The project is currently in planning. The retailer’s owner, Porta Holding, already has a presence in Slovakia through its other furniture brand, Asko, and plans to build a large Asko-Porta furniture exhibition and shopping center in Bory. The project will consist of two L-shaped structures that will go up in two phases. Work on the 9,225 sqm, €7.8m Asko store is set to get underway in the first half of 2017. The Porta store will go up second and offer 19,030 sqm. Costs for the second phase are expected to hit €16.8m.
Asko has been active in Slovakia since 2006, when it opened its first store in Nitra, followed by openings in Poprad, Prievidza, Košice and Bratislava. In 2011, Porta Holding bought Asko’s Slovak network.
