A benefit concert to help people affected by the conflict in Ukraine will take place today on Wenceslas Square in Prague. The bands Mig 21, Chinaski and Pražský výběr, Marie Rottrová and Tomáš Klus and musicians from the Czech Philharmonic will perform at the event. Proceeds will go to the collection People in Need SOS Ukraine. The event is organized by Czech Television. Similar concerts are held in other places in the Czech Republic.
The program on Wenceslas Square will start at 7 pm with the group Ahmed má hlad, and an hour later the live broadcast on ČT1 will begin. Dozens of artists will perform in Prague without the right to a fee. Světlana Witowská and Daniel Stach will perform an hour-and-a-half-long program that provides viewers with an insight into the current situation in Ukraine and an insight into the life of Ukrainians in the Czech Republic.
Proceeds from the concert will go to the collection of People in Need SOS Ukraine. The organization has been providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine since 2014, and as soon as the situation allows, its teams will focus on providing the most basic needs – food and facilities for domestic refugees. People in Need is ready to help not only in Ukraine, but also in neighboring countries if necessary, if they are hit by a refugee wave.
Viewers can support the collection by sending DMS in the form of DMS SOSUKRAJINA 30, DMS SOSUKRAJINA 60 or DMS SOSUKRAJINA 90 to the telephone number 87 777 or by donating to the collection account 93209320/0300.
Last year, Czech Television similarly initiated a charity Concert for Moravia held at Kampa in Prague with a record proceeds from donor SMS messages to help villages affected by the tornado.
