Zlín City Councils have decided to set aside 50 flats, which are now intended for reconstruction, for temporary accommodation of Ukrainian refugees. War refugees will also have free public transport, according to Tomáš Melzer, a spokesman for the Zlín City Hall.
“The City Council has set aside 50 flats for reconstruction for refugees of Ukrainian nationality or family members of employees of Ukrainian nationality from employers operating in Zlín who have been granted a special long-stay visa or are in the process of applying for this visa,” said Deputy Mayor Kateřina Francová (STAN).
Apartments for Ukrainian refugees will be rented through the church or a non-profit organization and Zlín’s employers. The condition is that at least one member of the family is a child under the age of 18. The rent was set at 80 crowns per square meter per month, in the case of flats in Obeciny CZK 65 per square meter.
“City flats have been set aside to bridge the initial and therefore the most difficult period for refugees from Ukraine. Contracts will be concluded by the end of this year at the latest. The next steps will depend on further developments,” said Mayor Jiří Korec (YES). The city owns about 2000 apartments. He is gradually reconstructing them and assigning them to the citizens of the city of Zlín according to the waiting list. Currently, approximately 40 flats are ready for the city’s residents to be handed over.
Refugees also have free public transport, they will receive six-month time coupons for all tariff bands. “The transport company will keep records of refugees to whom these coupons were issued, and the total price of these coupons in the amount according to the valid tariff conditions will be invoiced to the city of Zlín after the end of the calendar month. Refugees can present a passport, border guide or special visa for war refugees from Ukraine.
